When you come for your monthly braces appointment, sometimes the doctor will prescribe for you to wear elastics. Why do you need to do that? Well, the doctor prescribed them for you to wear in order to correct your bite or to shift a group of teeth at the same time.
So, if you’re given elastics, please remember the following:
- When elastics are first placed, please take a photo of where the demonstration elastics were placed. Then, use elastics exactly as prescribed. If not, the problem may worsen.
- Duration of wear is 22-23 hours a day if you only wear for 8-12 hours, the teeth will not shift as they will move back to their original position while you are not wearing the elastics.
- Please change each set of elastics every 24 hours. The package of elastics should last you at least 1.5 months.
